Illustration Awards (The V and A)

Roman Column and concrete metal rod by Minho Kwon

This artist got the runner-up position, creating intricate drawings that sort of dissect certain design technologies through time, from roman structures to car engines. I really enjoyed the detail and pencils/charcoal markings in Kwon's images, as they prompted me to explore the page. Also, the choice to keep the construction lines present on the page intrigues me, it allows the viewer insight into the process of the artist and further installs ideas of design and construction. However, I personal look for vivid colour and a bit more charisma in illustration, which I feel the medium used could not/did not provide.
