Initially, I was most intrigued by Gondry's short animation Three Dead People as it is an animation based on a dream he had, inspired by his grandfather's painting. It occurred to me whilst watching it that it did not have a conventional storyline and this appealed to me. When we experience dreams it is more about what we are seeing (the visual experience) than the storyline in the instant moment that we are experiencing the dream. This has brought my attention to what I would like to prioritise, which is the visual aspect of my animation rather than sticking to a conventional storyline.

The animation of the girl riding her horse over different, live action backgrounds reminded me of the structure or fragility of the dream space. This piece gave me the idea for a storyboard where the protagonist is experiencing rapid changes in his/her environment. The dream space also needs to be portrayed in a more obscure way, in contrasts to scenes that represent reality. The Let Forever Be music video suggests that optical antics of a kaleidoscope, something that I feel would look really surreal and obscure as the bases for the design of a dream space. The ever-changing shapes and colours suggest changes in environment, but also a greater sense of dynamics in the space, in comparison to the dormant, hard surroundings of reality.
