Exploratory Stage: Review

For the past 6 weeks I have been exposed to four different areas of Design and Media: Lens Based Media (LBM), Fashion and Textiles, 3D Design and Graphic Design. Throughout this exploratory stage I have acquired many new, useful skills. When studying LBM I was taught about the importance of framing and composition in photography and film and how each of these aspects can change the entire meaning of an image, or what it brings to the image in regards to narrative. In addition to this I learnt about effective story telling. 3D Design introduced new ways of idea generation and a new “get stuck in” kind of attitude towards design, through quick, very “hands on” builds. The part of the course that I found most helpful was the idea generation tasks, as it helped quicken the progress I made on my work without harming the quality of my ideas. I struggled slightly with the volume of work that was required in class time with the Graphics pathway because I am used to taking my time with work and making sure everything is neat. However, I really enjoyed many of the tasks and have learnt a lot of valuable exercises that I will definitely utilise in the future.
